Chapter Five

Jane eyed the row and rows of hanging dildos. Big. Small. Black. White. Purple. She shot a glance over the top of the display and encountered Damian’s gaze. He smiled. She blushed like a schoolgirl and shook her head.

“What’s the matter, Jane?” His tone was teasing.

Oh, he knew what was wrong all right. They’d discussed it all the way to her apartment where she’d gotten changed into something more low-key for their sex toy shopping trip.

He knew damn well she’d rather walk right out that door and go home and order her new vibrator online than be standing here in the sex shop trying to avoid eye contact with everyone she encountered. Ordering online was so much more private. That’s what she’d always done before. One click of a mouse and a few days later a discreet, unmarked, brown package would be delivered to her door, with no one the wiser. She did sometimes wonder if the mailman suspected, but she managed to push that thought aside since it was far easier to receive an innocuous package than face both the customers and the employees with a big life-sized vibrating dildo in her hand.

“I can’t believe you made me do this.” She hissed her complaint at him over the top of the display between them.

He grinned. “It’s good for you. It’ll get you over your embarrassment. Before you know it you’ll be in here every week asking the counter girl what’s new and exciting.”

“I will not. I’m not even going to talk to them.”

Damian started laughing and shook his head. “Oh man. You’ve really never bought anything in person?”

“No.” And she wouldn’t be doing it now if Damian hadn’t put her in such an orgasmic haze she probably would have followed him anywhere. “Why?”

“You’ll see when we check out.”

“Damian, tell me.” Her voice squeaked and she walked around to his aisle to confront him directly.

He immediately put down the item in his hand, which Jane tried to ignore was some sort of huge object she seriously hoped he didn’t intend to put inside her, and wrapped his hands around her waist. “You are absolutely adorable when you’re embarrassed. Do you know that?”

Leaning down, he pressed his lips to hers. It would have been nice to lean into him and forget where they were, but she couldn’t do it. She kept remembering the security cameras aimed at them from all corners. Theft must be a big problem in sex shops. The only thing she could imagine worse than buying a vibrator in person, was getting caught trying to steal one. She pushed that unpleasant thought aside and decided to go back to getting an answer out of Damian.

“What will I see?”

Smiling again, he picked up the package he’d put down before and turned it over in his hands, pretending to concentrate on reading the back. “When you check out with a vibrator, they take it out of the package, put in the batteries, and test it to make sure it runs.
